Red Sorghum 夜宴 stands out as a distinguished gem in Long Island City’s vibrant culinary scene, delivering authentic Sichuan and Chinese cuisine that excites the palate with bold, adventurous flavors. Situated at 28-03 Jackson Ave, this restaurant invites diners to embark on a rich sensory journey steeped in tradition and innovation.
The culinary offerings at Red Sorghum 夜宴 are a testament to deep-rooted Sichuan heritage, where spice and savor harmonize beautifully. Signature dishes such as the Lucky Coin Tofu and Golden Yolk Tofu showcase carefully balanced textures and bold, creamy tastes that melt effortlessly on the tongue. Their 蟹粉小笼包 (crab meat pork soup dumplings) burst with savory broth, delivering an exquisite umami richness that lingers long after the first bite.
For those seeking heartier fare, the Chairman’s Braised Pork (毛氏红烧肉) is a slow-simmered masterpiece, tender pork belly infused with layers of savory sweetness — a dish that speaks to the soul of Sichuan home cooking. Equally impressive are the vibrant Sauteed String Beans (干煸四季豆) and the fiery Chongqing Braised Beef (重庆水煮牛), both packed with the intense, numbing heat of red peppercorns that define local Sichuan spice profiles.
Noodle lovers will appreciate the Chengdu Dan Dan Noodles (成都担担面), a harmonious blend of wheat noodles, ground pork, peanuts, and sesame paste, evoking a nutty, spicy, and satisfying flavor experience that perfectly balances richness and heat. For rice aficionados, the Seafood Supreme Fried Rice offers a luxurious combination of shrimp, scallops, salmon caviar, and fresh vegetables, highlighted by the subtle "wok hei" — the smoky essence that marks expert stir-frying.
The dining atmosphere at Red Sorghum 夜宴 is warm and inviting, perfectly melding modern elegance with hints of traditional Chinese aesthetics. It creates a welcoming space whether you’re seeking a lively group dinner or a cozy meal for two. Service has been praised for its attentiveness and charm, with servers like Liam elevating the experience with knowledgeable recommendations and friendly care.
Patrons often describe the food as consistently delicious and perfectly portioned for sharing, encouraging communal dining that enhances every meal. AtoZ noted the meticulous food presentation that captures both beauty and flavor, while Rosie raved about the clean, balanced flavors of dishes like the seafood fried rice and lotus roots, also recommending the playful “Forbidden Romance” cocktail for those who enjoy berry-infused drinks.
Although some dishes lean toward the pricier side, the quality and depth of flavor more than justify the investment, with substantial portion sizes that satisfy robust appetites. Whether you’re escaping winter weather — as Ameya found refuge in the comforting Longevity Chicken Soup — or simply craving a taste of authentic Sichuan spice and tradition, Red Sorghum 夜宴 promises a richly rewarding dining experience that is as unforgettable as it is flavorful.

Sunday brunch walk-in got us to this old neighborhood Szechuan classic restaurant. Put it simply, extremely bold flavors overall. Menu is on the expensive end, but portion sizes are big enough for adults to share. One cannot go wrong with their Longevity Chicken Soup ($28) if you are sick or trying to escape from winter weather! The House Fried Rice ($20) pared really well with Golden Peppercorn Chicken Stew ($30). We felt it was overpowered by the pepper corn though, and we'd highly recommend getting their boneless option. Service was very quick and food arrived as it got ready and within 10-mins of placing the order. The staff is really friendly and were happy to interact and keep our little one busy! We often recommend this place to our friends and family when they crave Szechuan food with a fairly intimate and cozy set-up!
The food here is amazing — everything looks so delicious and is beautifully prepared. The service is great, Liam ~he’s amazing server and I especially love their cocktails and desserts. It’s definitely a place I’d recommend to everyone. A must-try!
This is my go-to spot whenever I can’t decide what to eat. The food is consistently delicious—highly recommend the Xiangxi fried rice and the lucky coin tofu. Great atmosphere and a really lovely place overall!
We got the seafood fried rice, the chairman's pork, and lotus roots. We thoroughly enjoyed the fried rice. It had a nice wok hei flavor and tasted clean (not oily). The lotus has a sweet and sour flavor profile. I got the forbidden romance drink (recommend the girly who like berry drinks)
This place has really good food. I especially enjoy their scallion pancakes. I had a chicken dish of theirs, which looked really good but I think there was too much of a acidic taste to it that started making my mouth uncomfortable as I was eating it. But the atmosphere is beautiful. The service is great.
I came to Red Sorghum for my birthday with a party of 12 and we reserved the private room upstairs. There’s a $50 per person minimum for the private room, which honestly worked out perfectly, we got to order so many dishes and try a huge variety of their menu! The dinner was amazing from start to finish. The food came out in waves, a few dishes at a time, which I really appreciated, it kept the table from feeling too crowded and let us enjoy each dish fresh. The wait staff was friendly and attentive, and the overall service was excellent. Everyone in my group raved about how flavorful everything was. Some standout dishes were: - Chairman’s Braised Pork: melt in your mouth fatty and tender, served with quail eggs. - Xiang Xi Fried Rice: packed with flavor and perfectly cooked. - Mali Tofu: bold, spicy, and so addictive. Most of the dishes had a spicy kick, but it was balanced and absolutely delicious. I’d definitely recommend Red Sorghum for anyone looking to celebrate an event with a larger party or even just with friends. (Food was so good, forgot to take more photos)
I was able to get a table on a Saturday night around 9pm for a late dinner. We ordered the ginger scallion fish fillet. It was decent, boneless fish with a hint of flavor. I’d say it’s only the blander side in flavor and presentation. The water spinach satay was delicious, the shrimp paste was not overpowering. I did find some harder stem pieces, which I personally am not used to eating. I thought the prep of this vegetable could be improved to remove those pieces. They’re like hay straws in your mouth. The chicken truffle soup dumplings was underwhelming, not enough truffle flavor and didn’t care for the skin. Wish the vinegar sauce was more vinegary, tasted diluted. The fried glutinous rice balls with black sesame paste inside was a good end to the meal, with a side of lychee ice cream. Overall, a decent choice for dinner in the area however not somewhere I’d travel out of the way for unfortunately.
The food, drinks, decor were all top notch. We got the steamed eggs w/ clam, water spinach satay, cucumber salad, and peppercorn fish stew! I’m not the best with spice but the peppercorn was a good numbing type of spice that paired perfectly with the other dishes. Food also came out pretty quickly and everyone was super nice. Would love to come back and try other dishes, they have a huge selection. Would recommend having a reservation as they get quite busy esp on weekends but we were able to snag some seats at the bar!
